Sarah Douglas

I am an engagement consultant and educator working at the intersection of art, education and social impact.  My mission is to create and enable educational methods that transform people’s experience, understanding and ability. I achieve this by leading strategic projects, and developing and delivering learning and engagement experiences – from lectures and workshops to education programmes, exhibitions and large-scale public events.

As both a freelance consultant, and through my creative consultancy, The Liminal Space, I help educational institutions, cultural organisations and leading brands engage people with important ideas. My current focus is on delivering, Timeless,  a major public engagement project co-funded by the Wellcome Trust and the London School of Economics & Political Science looking the impact of social egg freezing on women, work and society.

Other recent work includes designing high impact arts engagement programmes for vulnerable teenagers in Hackney (sponsored by Allen & Overy); co-creating visual stories with sex workers (Hackney Local Authority & NHS); using experience and participation to engage over 800 people in exhibition content  (Royal Academy of Arts) and working with a small team of Point People to design a new programme focused on social cohesion for Cumberland Lodge.

I hold a Lectureship in Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School and lecture on art practice and enterprise at several UK Universities.

After completing an MA in painting at the Royal College of Art in 2005 I went on to establish an art practice that has seen my work exhibited widely in the UK and internationally.  Always interested in how art, society and industry interact, I developed a social enterprise that connected emerging artists with corporate and private finance - partners included Whitechapel Gallery, Arts Council England and Coutts.

I extended my passion for innovation and creative entrepreneurship by joining the Royal College of Art’s Innovation Department where I advanced the College’s thought leadership and enterprise education programmes. I honed my strategic and arts management skills whilst consulting for major arts organisations at Wonderbird Ltd before going on to set up my own creative consultancy.

The Liminal Space has provided experience-led engagement programmes and exhibitions for a range of organisations including Contagious, The British Council,  Future Foundation,  Imperial College HealthcareThe School of Life, Royal Academy of Arts and Visa Europe.
